Biology B.Sc./ Biochemistry B.Sc.

Bioinformatics can be selected as a specialisation within the Biology and Biochemistry Bachelor's degree programme. Within this specialisation, our department offers the course B.Bio.113: Applied Bioinformatics and the Specialisation (Fachvertiefung) Bioinformatics  (B.Bio.152) in Biology  respectively the Specialisation Bioinformatics (B.Biochem.439) in Biochemistry.

Applied Bioinformatics (B.Bio.113) (10C, 7SWS):

Courses and exams
1. Lecture: Introduction to applied bioinformatics (4 SWS)
2. Tutorial: Internet-based Bioinformatics (3 SWS)

Module examination: Written examination (90 minutes)
Requirement for the examination: regular participation in the practical exercises and successful completion of three exercise sheets.

Admission requirements:
For BSc Bio: at least 40 C from the first stage of studies

Language: German

Biology B.Sc.: Specialisation and Bachelor Thesis in Medical Bioinformatics

The specialisation and Bachelor's thesis are completed usually in direct succession and last at least 18 weeks (full-time).

The specialisation in the B.Sc. degree programme Biology consists of two modules:

  • Advanced internship (6 weeks full-time) with associated literature seminar.
  • Scientific project management [B.Bio.190], consisting of the

              1. Lecture Good Scientific Practice [B.Bio.190.1] (Attention: only in winter semester!) and
              2. the scientific research concept for the Bachelor thesis [B.Bio.190.2] (usually directly before the start of the Bachelor thesis
in consultation with your first examiner of the Bachelor thesis).

For more information, see also here.

Application for the specialisation:

Places in the individual specialisation subjects are allocated in two allocation rounds per semester.

For specialisation in the winter semester
1st round 01.08.-31.08.
